Sydney

What Sydney is like

Sydney rewards you for showing up. Bondi's not just a beach—it's where locals actually swim between the flags, grab flat whites at corner cafes, then head to Coogee for afternoon drinks. Skip the Opera House crowds; instead, walk the clifftops at dawn when it's just you and the ocean. Darling Harbour's touristy, but Barangaroo Reserve is where Sydneysiders actually picnic. The Inner West—Newtown, Marrickville—has the real energy: vintage shops, Thai hole-in-the-walls, craft breweries. Manly's worth the ferry ride for the journey itself. Eat dumplings in Chinatown, fresh fish at markets, açai bowls everywhere. December to February is scorching; October and April hit perfectly. Expect salt-crusted hair, excellent coffee, and a pace that feels deliberately slower than it should.
