What South Korea is like
South Korea punches way above its size. Seoul's Gangnam district thrums with late-night energy—noraebang at 2am, street food that tastes expensive for ₩3,000. But slip into Jongno-gu and you'll find wooden hanok houses, quiet tea rooms, temples where monks actually live. Busan's seafront feels like a completely different country: saltier, slower, with raw fish markets and beach bars. The food alone justifies the trip—not just the Instagram-worthy stuff, but jjigaes (stews) that warm you from inside, Korean BBQ where you cook at your table, and convenience stores that somehow nail every snack. Koreans move fast but remain deeply courteous. You'll feel the tension between tradition and hyper-modernity everywhere, which makes it endlessly fascinating.
