What Santorini is like

Santorini hits different when you skip the postcard villages. Yes, Oia's crowded at sunset, but head to Pyrgos instead—hilltop wine bars with zero tourists, same view. The real magic is in the caldera swimming: dive into that deep blue from volcanic cliffs near Amoudi Bay. Eat fresh saganaki at hole-in-the-wall tavernas in Kamari, not the seafront tourist traps. The volcanic soil makes extraordinary wine—small producers in Megalochori pour generously and actually talk to you. Stay in understated Perissa if you want beaches without performance. Three days minimum: one for the villages, one for water, one for wine and wandering. The light here is genuinely incredible, especially April and October when it's warm but not furnace-like.
