Brussels

What Brussels is like

Brussels rewards the curious. Skip the Grand Place postcard crowds and hunt down Art Nouveau facades in Ixelles, where Horta's townhouses still take your breath away. Grab a Trappist beer at Delirium Café—yes, it's touristy, but the 2,000+ selection is real—then escape to neighbourhood gems like Sablon for vintage bookshops and proper cafés. The food scene punches above its weight: forget the tourist waffle trap and find crispy-outside frites at Fritland, or sit down for moules-frites that taste like the North Sea. Saint-Gilles has genuine energy, excellent cocktail bars, and a lived-in feel. Art Nouveau isn't just decoration here; it's the city's nervous system. Rain is frequent, so plan indoor museums. Two days minimum, but three lets you breathe.
